In Memoriam

Bruce Walter Haines  1938 - 2023

WOLCOTT, CT - Bruce Walter Haines, 85, beloved husband of Maureen (Zegzdryn) Haines, died peacefully at Waterbury Hospital on Monday, November 6th, 2023.

Bruce was born in Haines Falls, NY on June 7, 1938, son of the late Arnold and Evelyn (Poole) Haines. He served in the US Coast Guard. He earned an Associate’s Degree from New Haven College. Next to his family, his career in law enforcement was his second love.  His career consisted of being a Trooper, (Bethany Barracks) Sargent, Master Sargent, Lieutenant, and Detective, which was his favorite assignment.  Bruce culminated his career as Commander and Chief of Southbury Troop A.

Bruce loved the outdoors, fishing, hiking, riding his motorcycle, golfing, playing cards, chopping wood, and his loving family.  He had many friends and was always willing to lend them a hand, offer words of encouragement; and remained a truthful loyal friend to the end. Bruce also had a contagious laugh, which matched his witty sense of humor.

Left to cherish and carry on his legacy are his wife Maureen of 62 years, his son Steven B. Haines and his companion Cathy Dwyer, his daughter Pamela D. Kelly and her husband Rob Kelly, his grandchildren Carissa and Jake Peckrul, his two brothers Richard and his wife Jill Haines, Robert and his wife Sarah Haines, and several nieces and nephews. Bruce's family would like to thank the caring staff at The Village, where Bruce was made comfortable during the last year and a half of his journey.

Funeral Services were private.  You may visit Bruce’s tribute page on www.woodtickmemorial.com for online condolences. Memorial contributions may be made to LiveWell, 1261 S Main St, Plantsville, CT 06479

Maureen Haines  1941 - 2024

WOLCOTT, CT -  Maureen (Zegzdryn) Haines, 82, loving wife and mother, passed away unexpectedly at her home on Thursday, January 11, 2024. For 62 years, she was the beloved wife of CT State Police Lieutenant Bruce Haines, who passed away on November 6, 2023.

Maureen was born in Waterbury on April 13, 1941, daughter of the late John and Evelyn (Dunn) Zegzdryn. She was a devoted wife and mother who took great pride in taking care of her husband and children. In earlier years, Maureen and her sister Kathleen worked at McCrory’s Store in the former Naugatuck Valley Mall. She enjoyed gardening, cooking, bird watching, ocean vacations and spending time with her family. Maureen was a wonderful mother, wife and nana.

Maureen and Bruce met at Perm-O-Last Finishing Company and lived in Wolcott for over 59 years.

Left to cherish her memory and carry on her loving legacy are her daughter Pamela and her husband Rob Kelly, her son Steven Haines and his significant other Catherine Dwyer, her sister Kathleen and her husband Kevin Letts, her grandchildren Carissa and Jake, sister-in-law Gladys Zegzdryn, and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband and parents, she was predeceased by her brothers John Zegzdryn and Donald Zegzdryn.
